At Westpac, we are committed to helping our people prosper and grow.

  • We work to have an inclusive culture where every individual can shine regardless of gender, cultural identity, age, ability, sexual orientation, work style or approach. We have six employee action groups (EAGs) to champion diversity and ensure our employees’ diverse needs are met.
  • We promote a culture of flexible working and offer a variety of options for our employees including working from home, part-time hours, job sharing, the opportunity to purchase extra leave, career breaks and a generous parental leave policy.
  • We offer a payroll giving scheme and match our employees’ charitable donations.
  • The Westpac We Care Fund - He ora te whakapiri (Strength in Unity) - was established in March 2017 to provide financial help to employees in times of financial hardship.
  • We’ve teamed up with the Commission for Financial Capability to deliver six action-oriented workshops to improve our employees' financial acumen. Topics include ‘Money Mind’, ‘Spending’, ‘Insurance and Wills’, ‘Debt’, ‘KiwiSaver’ and ‘Retirement, Savings and Investing’.

Living Wage accredited.

Westpac became the first bank in New Zealand to be accredited as a Living Wage Employer at the beginning of 2019.

Cleaners, security guards and other workers employed through our contractors and suppliers on a regular and ongoing basis may not earn as much as our own employees. Working with our business partners on paying a Living Wage – currently set at $21.15 per hour - is one way we can help to raise living standards, improve financial wellbeing and address poverty.

First bank to offer NZQA qualifications.

We offer the opportunity to achieve formal, externally recognised, qualifications and we are the first NZ bank to offer NZQA qualifications to our residential property lenders.

The NZ Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) is NZ's premier professional qualification for the financial services industry, and is enabling our lenders to confidently conduct quality customer conversations for responsible lending.
