Approximately 4,500 New Zealanders use New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL), our third official language, as their primary form of communication.
Westpac’s Extra Care Programme Lead, Louisa Brock, said Westpac was excited to offer this to customers.
“It’s all about how we can remove barriers to all our customers to make banking equitable for everyone. After introducing this service, we’ve seen first-hand what a positive difference it’s making to the banking experience for our deaf customers. Since launching in January we’ve had over 16 customers use this service – from setting up internet banking apps, to business banking and loans.” say Brock.
The NZSL interpreters are from iSign, a nationwide agency providing interpreting services and the Government’s provider.
