Sustainability strategy and performance

Here is Westpac New Zealand’s sustainability strategy, our progress against targets and our key results.

In developing our strategy in 2012 we worked with our stakeholders to identify the material issues for our business and repeated this process when we extended our strategy in 2015.  We are also looking at how we contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and we have included the relevant icons in our strategy page below.

In 2016, Westpac received the following awards:

  • Dow Jones Sustainability Index recognised Westpac as the world’s most sustainable bank for the ninth time 
  • Two White Camellia awards for Leadership Promotes Gender Equality and Education and Training 
  • Deloitte Top 200 Diversity leadership award
  • Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand (IFINZ) Business & Institutional Banking Innovation award for providing facilities to solarcity for residential solar power
  • CANSTAR 2016  Award for Bank of the Year - Everyday Banking which recognised Westpac as the bank that offers "the strongest overall value for Kiwis when it comes to their everyday banking needs"
  • CANSTAR 2016 Youth Banking Award, recognised the “banking services and education capabilities” offered to the 12-18 age group
  • CANSTAR 2016 Online Banking Award for Westpac One which recognises the seamless transition across mobile phones, computers and tablets, strong self-service functionality
  • CANSTAR Innovation Excellence Award 2016  for Airpoints™ Debit MasterCard which allows consumers to gain rewards by spending their own money rather than through debt.
